The Art History Institute, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – School of Social Sciences and Humanities / IN2PAST – Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory will host the Annual Meeting of the Research Group for Baroque Ceiling Painting in Central Europe (BCPCE), in Lisbon. The programme includes the BCPCE Workshop and a three-days visit of Lisbon's churches and palaces, and the National Palace of Mafra, to study the ceiling paintings of Cyrillo Volkmar Machado in situ.
Art historians and other researchers interested in wall and ceiling painting, especially of the baroque period, are invited to the Workshop Baroque mural and ceiling painting in the making – The multiple roles of drawings in the process of production, presentation and reception of wall and ceiling paintings. The Workshop, focused on function of drawings in producing of ceiling paintings and their role in transfering of artistic ideas among artists`workshops, and patrons, provides opportunity to share knowledge in this field of research. In this way, we will try to analyse the ambivalent character of drawing as a form of presentation to clients, but also as a primary source of the artist's thoughts and reflections in the process of the effective materialisation of an idea.
